Believes in a great future for the maritime industry

– I believe that we, based on the knowledge and competence we have in our industry, are able to transform this into new products and new markets, says Per Arne Rindarøy, Managing Director of Aukra Maritime.

We wanted to learn more about Per Arne Rindarøy, his thoughts on leadership and the way forward for Aukra Maritime as well as the maritime industry in a rapidly changing world. So, we have asked him some questions.

Q: What type of leader are you?
A:
Due to the fact that we are a manufacturer of tailor-made solutions, I do hope I inspire the people in the team around me, so that they can develop new and optimized solutions for our customers.

Q: What do you find most inspiring in your job?
A:
One thing that is very inspiring to me, and also makes me proud, is to see that products we have developed, often based on an idea, is actually being realized.

Q: What future vision – related to leadership, competence development and sustainability – do you have for the company?
A:
My future vision is related to sustainability. We focus on producing sustainable products and solutions. In addition, we always try to meet our customers’ needs for new and more environmentally friendly products such as electric cranes, etc. We therefore work closely with our customers to develop the best solutions for them.

Q: What is the most important experience you have had last year during the Covid-19 pandemic? How has the pandemic affected the company and the organization?
A:
Seeing how quickly the market changed from a very optimistic February to the opposite in March was very strange to experience. We have, like many other Norwegian suppliers, been affected by the pandemic. But now we feel that the marked is improving, and hopefully it will soon return to normal.

Q: On a personal level, what are you most looking forward doing when the pandemic is finally over?
A:
That is clearly to meet family and friends in a normal way again. And to go on a road trip in Europe.

Q: How do you think working life will change in the future, and how will it affect your management?
A:
Over the last year, we have learned how to do Teams-meetings in a good way, so I think we will travel less and continue having meetings on Teams. But nothing is better than meeting face to face and in my opinion, digital meetings will not totally replace meetings in real life.

Q: What do you think about the future prospects, challenges and opportunities for maritime companies and the maritime industry?
A:
I think the maritime industry in Norway have a great future. And I believe that we, based on the knowledge and competence we have in our industry, are able to transform this into new products and new markets.

Q: How have you benefitted from the NME membership?
A:
We are a small company and resources are sometimes limited. But as a member of NME, we have exhibited in NME’s Team Norway pavilions at maritime trade fairs around the world. This has given us the opportunity to be presented to international customers in the best way.
